From the moment your moth-damaged or moth-infested rug or tapestry is collected, it is handled and treated with the utmost care during each stage of the moth treatment and cleaning process at our Rug Care Workshop Studios.

We undertake an initial inspection of the piece, documenting every detail – from fibre wear, previous stains and old repairs to colour-run. We then review the extent of the moth damage and/or any current moth infestations to assess the rug or tapestry’s specific cleaning requirements and thereafter the potential repair or restoration works for your piece, before applying the following Rug Cleaning Care steps to secure its needs.

Rug Dry De-Dusting | Moth Debris Removal

Before any moth treatment or cleaning is undertaken, we perform a dry de-dusting. This crucial step is an effective pre-treatment, pre-wash process, specifically designed for rugs that gently agitates and safely eliminates moth infestation build-ups of eggs and larvae embedded deep within delicate rug fibres that standard vacuuming cannot reach.

First, moth-damaged weavings are temporarily secured with threading. During our cleaning process, we hand-apply a professional-grade FREE specialist moth treatment. This ensures the eradication of any remaining residual infestations of eggs and feeding larvae, while actively rejuvenating and reconditioning rug fibres.

Moth Treatments Flushing Out | Water Extraction

Next, we thoroughly sluice the piece with clean, fresh water to flush out and remove all treatment residual build-ups and any remaining organic debris, such as moth egg husks and dead larvae, leaving the weaving conditioned and pristine

Airing | Drying

Your cleaned weaving is then laid flat and thoroughly aired and dried in a temperature-controlled aerating room. When dry, we gently brush out any loose or partially eaten rug yarn fibres and lay the pile nap.

Moth Damage Review for Repair | Restoration Works

Once the treatment and cleaning process is complete, we assess the full structural damage to the weave and provide you with a detailed estimate for repair. We wait for your confirmation of go-ahead, before beginning any restorative repair works for this next phase.
