From the moment your flood-sodden, mouldy or damp-damaged rug or tapestry is collected, it is handled and treated with the utmost care during each stage of the treatment and cleaning process at our Rug Care Workshop Studios.

We undertake a detailed initial inspection of the piece that includes any pre-existing repairs, colour-run, fibre wear or moth damage. We then review and assess the full extent of the flood water, mould or damp damage and associated odours. This helps us to tailor a specific cleaning treatment and restorative plan for the piece.

When the review is complete, the piece is immediately treated to our traditional deep-wash process, that combines gentle intensive hand-cleaning methods with organic soap solutions that penetrate and deep cleanse the weaving and its affected areas, to remove any residual mud, silt, slime and contaminants.

After the initial decontamination cleaning process, we treat any remaining watermarks or mould spots, before the rug undergoes a second deep-cleansing hand-wash to ensure it is completely sanitary and safe to use for children or pets. This important second hand-cleaning step actively rejuvenates and reconditions yarn fibres. We also hand-condition any fringes and apply a professional-grade FREE specialist moth treatment, as part of this process.

All remaining traces are flushed out and sluiced away with clean fresh water, so that any remaining residues and odours are completely eliminated – leaving yarn fibres rejuvenated and reconditioned.

Fringes Dressing | Drying

The cleaned weaving is now placed in a temperature-controlled aerating room, to ensure it is thoroughly aired and dried. Any fringes are then hand-brushed and straightened, with yarn fibres brushed out, the nap laid and the pile buffed and polished.
