We undertake a detailed initial inspection of the stain damaged piece that includes any pre-existing repairs, colour-run, fibre wear or moth damage. We then review the extent of the deeply ingrained stains or heavy soilage and associated odours to assess the rug or tapestry’s specific stain treatment and cleaning needs, and perform a colourfastness test on a concealed area, if required.

Rug Dry De-Dusting | Debris Removal

Before any stain treatments or cleaning steps are undertaken, we carefully hand-blot any present residual moisture, so we can perform a dry de-dusting on the piece. This crucial step is specifically designed for rugs, to gently loosen dust particles and safely eliminate ingrained debris and embedded build-ups in delicate rug fibres that standard vacuuming cannot reach. An effective process that protects and prevents any undue fibre abrasion, while encouraging renewed rug fibre suppleness, thereby allowing our specialised treatment applications, cleaning and conditioning processes to work more effectively.

Deeply Ingrained Stains or Heavy Soiling Treatments

To ensure the best results in their treatment, ingrained stains or heavy soiling requires a two-stage application approach. First, we apply treatment solutions by hand that are eco-friendly and safe for children and pets to the affected ingrained stains and heavy soilage areas, to help break down stubborn matter and eliminate any lingering odours.

Next, our traditional deep-wash hand-cleaning methods combined with organic soap solutions gently penetrate and deep cleanse the weaving and its affected areas – giving a better, more reconditioned clean, while actively rejuvenating and reconditioning yarn fibres. We hand-condition any fringes and apply a professional-grade FREE specialist moth treatment as part of this process.

Deeply Ingrained Stains or Heavy Soiling Treatments Flushing Out | Water Extraction

After cleaning, we carefully inspect the yarn fibres for any stubborn traces that remain. If present, they are spot-treated by hand. The piece is then flushed out and sluiced with clean fresh water, to ensure all residues and odours are completely eliminated – leaving yarn fibres rejuvenated and reconditioned.

Fringes Dressing | Drying

The cleaned weaving is now placed in a temperature-controlled aerating room, to ensure it is thoroughly aired and dried. Any fringes are then hand-brushed and straightened, with yarn fibres brushed out, the nap laid and the pile buffed and polished.
