From the moment your rug or tapestry weaving is collected, it is handled and treated with the utmost care during each stage of the repair and restoration processes at our custom-built Rug Care Workshop Studios. We have a vast experience in handling an extensive variety of rug and tapestry weavings and understand your pieces are unique and precious.

INSPECTION | CLEANING AND REPAIR WORKS GO-AHEAD

As soon as your weaving arrives at our Rug Care Workshop Studios, we undertake a detailed inspection. Each weaving is assessed for its repair and restorative care needs – according to age, woven materials and size. We also review and assess the weave fibres’ condition and construction, documenting any previous stains, old repairs, colour-run, fibre wear or moth damage, and perform a colourfastness test on a concealed area, if needed.

After inspection, we reconfirm the initial quote given, or if anything changes, we notify the customer first and update the details, before any works proceed.

DRY DE-DUSTING | DEBRIS REMOVAL

The first step in our restorative process is to perform a dry, gentle de-dusting on the piece, before any cleaning, repair or restoration steps are undertaken. This crucial step is specifically designed for rugs, runners, Persian rugs and Oriental carpets, to gently loosen dust particles and safely eliminate ingrained debris and embedded build-ups in delicate rug fibres that standard vacuuming cannot reach. This process effectively protects and prevents any undue fibre abrasion, while encouraging renewed rug fibre suppleness, thereby allowing our specialised repair and restoration processes to work more effectively.

RE-CONDITIONING RUG FIBRES AND COLOUR VIBRANCY

The next restorative step is hand-cleaning the weavings. This essential process ensures a clean weaving foundation, with re-conditioned, supple rug fibres, so that our hand-crafted repair works can be safely applied and our custom-dyed new yarns matched to the weaving’s true colours, to produce a seamless, authentic finish.

First, weavings are temporarily secured with threading, if needed. Next, we apply our traditional hand-cleaning methods, combined with organic soap solutions – safe for children and pets. Every clean includes a FREE hand-conditioning treatment for fringes and a FREE professional-grade moth treatment to prolong the lifespan of your rug. Our hand-cleaning methods actively rejuvenate and recondition rug yarn fibres, with allergens removed, colours and textures revived, and the lustre restored.

After the hand-cleaning process, repair and restoration works can now be safely hand-applied.

Everyday use of rugs and tapestry weavings can leave them susceptible to problems such as fraying, torn, uneven or missing fringes, unravelling or torn edges, curling corners, pet-chewed edges, and pulled threads, and vulnerable to holes, splits, tears and pile-worn areas, while embedded moth and carpet beetle infestation damage can speed up the deterioration of a piece. If these problems are left untreated, it may lead to further disintegration of an already damaged weave, while rendering them unsafe to use and their value and original-crafted aesthetics diminished.
