Although rugs are generally used and viewed as art on the floor, pieces with a finer weave structure such as tapestries, silk rugs and textiles, or flat weaves such as sumaks and aubussons, or even more fragile pieces such as antique, rare and decorative rugs greatly benefit from being displayed as 'Art on the Wall'.
Concentrated foot fall, the constant abrasive action of moving doors and the heavy, static pressure of furniture placed on top of this type of weaving can exacerbate the pile tension, wear out the foundation and damage the warp and weft threads at a much faster rate. This may result in repairs or more in-depth restoration works being needed at a later stage.
As Rugs Specialists, we help conserve our customers’ weavings, so they can be enjoyed and admired in a safe and preserved condition.
At Magic Hand, we devised a durable and concealed wall hanging method that is safe to apply and suitable to use for all types of rugs, tapestries and textiles of any size. Here, we meticulously apply these bespoke works by hand, to ensure the foundation of the weave is supported and the casing secure.
Once in place, the weaving lies flush to the wall surface and can be mounted on either picture hooks or screws that are secured to a wall. The hanging rail can be easily removed from its secure casing and the piece will lie flat, to allow for cleaning or shaking out, if needed.
We carefully assess the size, weight and condition of each individual piece for our hanging technique service, prior to any work being undertaken, to ensure it can be properly and evenly supported and conserved by the hanging apparatus.
